not sure if this is what is happening to you but I bought a 12 pack of Primo 3Bs (they are probably softer than contes) and I have broken through 5 pencils trying to sharpen them. THIS is what I found out I was doing wrong. You have to roll the pencil as you sharpen. If they are breaking after you manage to sharpen them yeah i would assume it is just a bad batch. Idk why it took me so long to realize this baka
