i'm just a hobbyist looking to get into oil painting, however, not to waste material on ridiculous paintings I want to master the fundamentals using pencil. What should I get good at before I start to practice with oil? Perspective and shadows, textures? How to get good with colors? Any books?
or am I wrong? should I start studying straight with oil, since it is going to be my 'endgame'?
I have no interest in painting human beans by the way
