Came to post this. Also I will add, famous characters with what are considered good designs usually have 1 thing, maaayybe 2 that make their silhouette different and recognizable. Overly cluttered silhouettes can make the character harder to recognize, that's why kids love to draw Sonic, the Rabbids from Rayman, sponge bob... Maybe some harder silhouettes could work if they are well implemented.

Practice a lot of poses that have foreshortening elements on them. Anatomy is another thing to keep in mind.

It really doesn't matter, trace, don't trace, draw for real, do whatever as long as you get popular. Once you are popular you can do whatever you want or even expose yourself as the hack you are and it won't matter.
I swear by what Loomis says here and I try not to depend on crutches but in 2019 it just doesn't matter anymore. Art is 95% marketing.

Informative but the "jokes" really make me unable to take it very serious.

Right now I have neither skill or creativity so either is fine and I'll practise the rest, like I was already planning anyway.
