Blending to make it as realistic as possible and then go over it with a textured brush.

>Art is crafted for a consumer
Wrong. Art is a very loosely defined concept. If you're trying to define what art is, you're going to have a bad time. You seem to assume that your own definition of art is the "correct" one.

If you believe art is crafted for a consumer, so too is valid the opinion of those who admire polished art, unless you want to contradict yourself. This is all a matter of taste, and to each their own.

>Where's the unique vision? Anything at all interesting? It's a figure wearing boringly designed set of armor, lit and rendered using the most generic and stiff style... Sorry if you didn't understand you have to be more than just a render machine to "make it".
That depends on the industry you're talking about. A lot of concept art made for production in video games or films lack creativity. It focuses on design and concept, not artistic composition. People who work in these fields often produce mundane art lacking creative composition.

If you believe all novels must contain great stories with interesting twists, then Tolkien's novels become tedious and mundane due to the amount of time he spent describing the world the characters live in, but it becomes enjoyable when one expects good fantasy world-building. You're judging art by a standard for which it obviously wasn't made for. It's okay to not like it and I can understand why you don't like it, but let's not imply that your opinion is the universal truth.
