Vilppu's method is procedural. However not every pose is practical to start off with >long lines of action< (especially a lot of porn poses like, for example, what you'd see in kusoge screenshots on boorus, analyze those for a clear example on forms that are concealed from view). That is when you'll use a different set of tools and hence you'll use "flow" and volume together.

Sometimes you can use the LOA or line of action.
Sometimes you'll break it down in one big shape or you'll start with a hand or maybe the pelvis.
Sometimes you'll attempt to be as organic as possible with your shapes.
And sometimes you'll use none of these and go with a basic contrapasta method for a simple standing figure.

Have you watched Vilppu tape on the 3 different approaches? He goes over this and says that's okay. I wonder why this specific tape is less popular with /ic/.
