America does not have a monopoly on it. Same thing happens in Russia. There's a whole lot of people LARPing as convicts, mostly teenagers, taxi drivers, mall security guards and other such blokes who've never done anything more serious than substance abuse.
In fact, some Armenian dude recently redecorated a room in his house as a prison cell, pretended to be a currently imprisoned big time criminal over Telegram and started selling "titles" in prison hierarchy. Can't make this shit up.
