Portfolio-Style Art Sites
>DeviantArt
>ArtStation
>Pixiv
Portfolio sites make it easier for fans to view all your work in one place, but aren't much good for garnering new followers. They're a decent homebase to link back to if you don't have your own website.

Social Sites:
>Twitter
>Facebook
It's easier to gain followers here than the former, but you have to post relevant things often (emphasis on RELEVANT and OFTEN), or your art will get swallowed up in other's feeds. These sites will recommend posts to existing followers depending on how often they "like" your shit + frequency of your posts. Likes are shown to your follower's followers, increasing the chance for your work to be seen by new eyes. When not posting art, you maintain your following be being social (sharing opinions, replying to other's posts, shitposting, ect).

Shill-Central
>Reddit
Their ToS explicitly states that you aren't allowed to advertise yourself, and yet it's one of the best sites to do so. As long as you title your post appropriately, redditors will upboat your content to that sub's front page.
The formula: Find the appropriate sub for your art, read their rules on tagging/labeling, and make a post that doesn't sound like an ad. Examples:
>Splatoon fanart would be titled "Just reminding you who best girl is"
>Lucio fanart, "Lucio breaks it down"
>Tenryuu fanart, "Commission of Tenryuu for my boat-loving friend"
Sorry, but you'll have to get over the cringe factor if you want those pageviews.

Tumblr
>Tumblr
Lowest tier social site. "Likes" don't show in other's feeds, your posts aren't recommended to anyone, and the tags are only good for organizing posts on your own blog- they do shit-all for discovery. If you want followers, you'll have to get lucky by having someone with an already existing follower-base reblog your art.

Reminder that Lava and W had all the time in the world to launch their sites, because they werent nearly as transparent as our current devs, and had far more experience in coding.

Thank you for sticking with us guys, even if some screech at you. The rest of us are grateful
