Although it seems to be working, this method of studying is slow and exhausting. I feel like I might need to recharge by drawing something lewd.

With such strong lighting, there would be cast shadows. Not just form shadows. Also, by having such intense form shadows on the traps, not having form shadows on the delt, scap muscles, etc. looks weird.

Good job. The hand is so close to the camera and has such dynamic range that it catches the eye. It looks kind of unfinished for such a strong focal point.

Yeah. When you’re trying to find/place simplified constructions based on bony landmarks, as a beg, it really helps if you find a model with visible bony landmarks.

Not great, not terrible. But that’s okay. Just keep going. Do it again and again, from reference. Focus on observational drawing at first, getting good at drawing what you see. Those lines look like they’re placed with careful and deliberate attention, which is great, and a habit you want to maintain. That said, don’t worry too much about getting each individual thing you do right. It’s more important in the early stages to draw a lot and keep moving on. Why not try drawing from the reference image you linked to?

I mean that you need to stop trying to get each figure careful and correct, and instead just draw a shitload of them. You will be helped by increasing the volume of quick sketches you do, and not by studying harder. Just take the drawing to the stage where the gesture and basic volumes are plotted out and the landmarks are identified. Like at the level of finish of Hampton’s gestures. Stop trying to do anatomy and hatching and obsessing over any one pose. I think you’re at the point where using 3 minute or 5 minute timer for each pose and then moving on will actually help you a lot. Do a couple hundred of them.

Also I hope you’re okay and didn’t actually almost die.
