You can do it op, I know you can.

At first you wont be able to freely draw from your mind, but If you use enough reference(in any topic you are studing really, especially anatomy) you will be able to draw from imagination and improve in no time. You are doing good. Using reference is key. Try drawing for fun without much reference once in a while, you will be surprised with how much you have learned.

Many thanks. I'll go buy a large drawing board and just use my desk. I might need a new lamp though but that's fine.

>>5059431
Based trad chad with diy tips. Too bad im retarded and have never held a drill in my life. The drawing board method sounds really good for my current living situation. if I needed to move rooms, i can move around a large drawing board with ease, since my "studio" is also my bedroom, and is shared with my brother, we have bunk beds. He also loves to have fucking visitors over and they all crash in the room. However I would still consider an easel for the near future, its not like he is here 100% of the time, but I am.

Mine was that I thought i was good since forever, then I slowly realized how bad I was when I saw how much there was to learn. After 2 years of grinding the right way(aka reading actual books and studing), im willing to say im not /beg/, but im far from /pro/. I'll get there. The reason I know is because I cant stop drawing, Its a part of me. Sooner or later ill be great.

Your unrealistic head drawing is clear to me. I can sum it up in a few questions.

1. Do you know how to draw the skull in detail?

(meaning you understand its complex form to the point where you understand how deep the muzzle is, and how deep the crevices are right underneath the eye sockets? Do you know where the cheek bones turn?)

2. Do you know where the muscles of the head insert into the skull?

(if you know where the muscles lay, you will be able to pull off the actual forms of the head more accurately, your drawing is sorely lacking in these forms. All i see are features, and loomis meme ball.)

3. Do you even understand perspective to its fullest yet?

(reading perspective made easy, or viewing marshall vandruf's or Eric Olson's course on perspective is a minimum prerequisite to being able to understand 3d form more accurately than you do already, you'd be surprised on just how much you don't know yet. Also throw in scott robertson's how to draw in there.)

4. Have you tried to study and understand the asaro head yet?

(The asaro head breaks down the head into simple planes, and will help greatly when it comes to shading the head. You can google asaro head and find a 3d model of it within the first or second search result to sketch fab. Marco Bucci's Painting the Head class. I watched it for free using a skillshare free trail.)

TLDR; The head is a very complex form OP, you need to first understand perspective and form very well before proceeding, after that, it all starts with the skull. Once you understand how to draw it at any angle and know where its muscles lay, GO TO VILPPU.

Resources:

Download something called Anatomy 360 Skull sketcher 2. Its free and you get a male and female version of a 3d skull with various lighting settings.

there is absolutely 0 lighting and consideration of values in this drawing. while the characters arent badly drawn. the scene completely seperates them, as if they were in two different dimentions. to understand why this happens, you need to polish up on perspective. that square does not line up with the rest of the scene. If you cannot do perspective, you cannot paint cast shadows, if you cannot paint cast shadows, you cannot paint in correct values.

heres what you have to do.

1. Read Perspective made easy by Ernest Norling. (or watch marshall vandruffs 1994 perspective course)

2. Read Perspective For Comic book artists by David Chealsea. This will help you understand why your perspective drawings look like this.(Basically the understanding of the cone of vision)

3. Read up on how to render by scott robertson(makesure you understand how to build cast shadows before you even fucking touch this shit. Perspective books will tell you how.)

After that you can dive in to anatomy and or colors.

See you back here in 2 years.

fuck bro, ive always said that sharpening my math skills to such an absurd level is just retarded for someone who will literally never do math in the future, but you know what, you're fucking right. Atleast i dont feel that retarded because I agree with you 100% on the perspective aspect, those who ignore the technical sides of perspective and literally ngmi. Well fucking said.
