Ive always wanted to do oil paints.

I know its nothing special but i fiund it really relaxing doing some wet-on-wet landscape paintings at a Ross method class. Since then ive wanted to do oil painting, even if it was pleb tier Ross landscapes, it was relaxing and i enjoyed it.

Although years past and i always found myself never getting around to buying the brushes, paints and thinner/canvases.
Recently an artist friend said some rather discouraging things about oil painting, like you have to keep your paints in the fridge and they have to be replaced a lot.
Is this true? Is oil painting a particularily expensive medium? I just want to paint landscapes.
