From what I've seen, Western/American comic creators and animators earn more than mangaka/anime-ka in Japan. I think that the average manga (without anime adaption) might sell about as much as the average indie comic, or the average book (read that it could be as low as 200 copies sold in the lifetime of a book).

Did anyone here realise they were better at drawing than painting, or vice versa?

For many years, I tried to force myself to go down the Loomis route, sketching and "laying out the fundies" through pure sketching. It always wore my out and looked awful so I stopped.

Recently, I decided to paint instead of draw and holy shit, I realised how much easier and fun it was for me. Painting out shapes, filling in colours and anatomy all came so much better. Thoughts and experience?

Hi anon, you have to force yourself to pick at the commission bit by bit until eventually you get used to working on longer hours. Don't beat yourself up, it really takes time to get used to. I average at 10-12 hour days on drawing commissions, while i have to deal with pretty bad fatigue from diabetes. You can do it anon I believe in you.
