Shouldn't take too long. Learn basic face structure and proportions first and then just do a ton of practice. One thing that helped me a lot last year was when I decided to draw a portrait of every HONY photo posted that year. The guy posts 5 or so a day, and I'd sometimes miss a few days to let them build up and then fill a few pages at one sitting. Either way it was good practice for faces and I got steadily faster at drawing them too.
