I don't know for sure but if I had to guess I'd assume it has something to do with the limited amount of openings available. They probably have to turn away a lot of young people every year so if you're some mediocre old fart you won't be shown mercy. Commercial art schools, unlike certain others, often have pretty strict admissions process. They want to make money, but they also want to be reasonably certain the student is capable of bringing prestige to the school.

If someone is trying to get into art school in their late 20s and they still suck worse or are on par with a good portion of the applicants fresh out of highschool the school isn't in the position to be sympathetic, even if the boomer is pretty good for having only been drawing for a year or two.

No, I'm just here to trigger the Israeli communist weenie MOMAron until he starts accusing me of being some random asian guy with no proof due to his ever-worsening schizophrenia (a common problem for people that unironically appreciate "ready-made" art, drip paintings, Chris Ofili etc.). I like a handful of Ruan's pieces and respect him for his command of the medium, but do think he's a little overrated.

>comparing Rothko or Chris Ofecalphiliac to Shakespeare [LOL]

>comparing an orange rectangle to a book

>comparing someone actually looking at an orange rectangle without breathing through their mouth or being up their own ass to "not reading a book" at all

>implying you're "smart" for wasting your time, money or both at one of the insane asylums that have the audacity to masquerade as art schools these days

and of course

>implying other people are stupid for not following your shining example

That's a whole lot of non-sequiturs for just one post, MOMAron

Surely you have some more cookie-cutter softball arguments or rhetoric from out of your fine art proselyte playbook to share with the rest of us. I don't think photography has been brought up in this thread yet!

Because there's no compelling reason why it should be. Everyone has a personal story, some may be more entertaining than others, but that doesn't turn an orange rectangle into something other than what it is. It takes the uncanny pretentions of individual narcissists and their more organized, well-funded enablers to do that.

Don Bluth is a living master of animation and is doubtless a better source in that regard than any of the people you'll find in CalArts today and at less than a fifth of the price it is tempting.

It is still very expensive, but learning from each other directly is how artistic training should be, we have a better opportunity than ever to cut out the bloat from the educational industrial complex, and considering the costs we've never had a bigger incentive to do so.

There are other alternatives though, like AMB

I love making these. In all fairness some of the students' applied art and products are pretty nifty lmoa
