What medium are you using. Wet on wet can be tricky with any paint because you basically have to have the brush feeding paint at a rate to deposit it on top of the wet layer of the ground without allowing to brush to pick up any of the wet layer below. Its really easy to get a muddy mess, especially with oils. This is one of the spots where acrylic's quick drying can be an asset.

What I usually do is really load the brush up, and stop at intervals along the line to clean and reload the brush. I'm not great at it, but that seems to work for me.
