How do I soul?

Memes aside, pieces like pic related always make me realize I'm not good at expressions, despite making gains in anatomy.

Objectively there's a lot of rough linework in it, and chickenscratches around the hand and such, but the face just pops out at you so much that you that the little things don't matter as much.
