the center light is the dead-ass spot that the light is hitting. the highlight on the other hand is the reflection of the light source. and being a reflection, where the highlight is depends on where you're viewing the object from and how smooth or rough the material is.
so in that pic it's the reflection of the light bulb. since it's that kind of wood, it's blurry. if that ball was a mirror you'd see the clear reflection of the light bulb right where the highlight is.
