I guess you are just highly tolerant to eating shit, because the year I participated (2020, I think) it took me browsing through hundreds of characters until I could find a single one or two worth my attention.

The OC thread on /ic/ is full of garbage and some of the tranny shit leaks over there from time to time, but it still has maybe a 1:10 ratio of workable characters being posted.

Drawing a friend's OC is great, sadly most people I click with personality-wise do not click with me art-wise and vice-versa.
I do have a huge backlog of characters from people I saw on social media that I'd like to make some art of, so I'm not complaining, but defending ArtFight is inexcusable, I've gone undercover on Furaffinity in the past for a few months and it had 100 times the quality of what you can find in the sea of spamming beg underaged girls that is Art Fight.

Thinking again, I might be talking to women here, they're immune to voluntary ugliness.

There is zero reason why you should be kind or even accepting of pic related, no matter where in life or skill this person is at.

Successful people don't always know "why" they're successful, and it's blatantly obvious, when positive reinforcement is their given reason.
Positive reinforcement is a cancer in all that it touches. It created a generation of walking Faberge eggs. Ornate on the outside, perfectly hollow on the inside, and oh-so-fragile.
You obviously don't want to be outright mean to someone, but it's more valuable to tell them what they're doing wrong than gushing over their abilities.

no, the popularity comes from the fact that people like the art style. i've made posts about how much i dislike the art style and i got bombarded with asks and messages and reblogs whining about how it's rude to hate on people's art. i can confirm that the mentality is basically that:
>tumblr nose is fun to draw
>popular with teens/tumblrites
>it's ~cute~
>it goes with tsundere characters uwu~
>excessive sparkles and heart mouths and pastel color schemes are kawaii
i used to draw in the tumblr art style. i've seen hate about it like maybe in 2 posts in my 5 years using that shitty website. i grew out of it quickly (thank god) but people get stuck in the habit and the cliches become part of their art style. there's some that pull it off rather well, but most artists end up having the exact same art style because it's easy to draw and cute.
the people that exclusively draw in the style to piss people off are few and far. but the best part about them? i get to laugh at how they're trying to piss people off for attention instead of improving their generic shit(and they usually can't draw above the standard level of the average tumblr art-styler anyways)

As a person from europe (inb4 brown people invading your country) it blows my mind how amerifats conside "fat" is NATURAL BODY.
Personally i havent even seen that many fat people in my life. And some fat americans i see on photos or "Comicbook conventions" are on fatness level i never seen in reality.
