go more bold with the lighting and shadows. practice with clear bright light and simplify the form when you are coloring it.
Heres an example you can see crisp solid shadows. Make your edges hard in the correct places and soft in other places and use a references if you cannot picture it in your mind.

For now i think your biggest problem is light and shadow. go do harsh single direction lighting and it will give you more confidence. (sorry if my post is unclear)
