To add to this, do that, but over and over again. So for example, draw a hand, then look at it and see what worked and what didn't. Draw it again and attempt to fix what didn't work. Look at that second hand and find the mistakes you made. Draw it again and fix those. Rinse and repeat, constantly fixing mistakes and improving upon what you did right. Fill a whole page with just hands. Eventually you'll learn how to avoid recurring mistakes and you'll gain a better understanding of whatever it is you were drawing.

I did this recently with skulls. I always found them super complicated, so I sat down, reference in hand, and spent a few minutes trying to draw it. The mouth was too low, overall shape too oval, eye sockets were kinda off. I drew it again keeping that in mind and the second one looked a ton better. Now that I had realized that was an easy mistake to make I was able to focus more on the rest of the shapes. I did that a few more times, and eventually I was able to draw a pretty decent one without looking at the reference (pic related, first attempt in the top right, last one not from imagination is the largest one towards the center).

Of course that only taught me how to draw ONE view of a skull, but it also helped me learn and understand their general shapes, which I knew very little about until I did this.
