Generally: Mark the generals. And then start to look carefully and measure: This person's nose is a good bit shorter/longer than the ideal one. So I change it according to that. That Person has a suprising small mouth. Oh in relation the nose is really narrow - need to keep that in mind. So the eyes might be closer to each other. Yes they are! ...

Etc.... it's good to have a basis and then change things according to the actual person you are drawing.

On a personal note: Besides I've been drawing too tough I'm stuck in a shitty hotel. Also always happy to be critiqued. I didn't use refs on purpose since I still trying to construct ppl out of forms and all... potrait was mostly value training.
