Porn will never be the most profitable option for decent artists, because as >>2153729 described, the bucket is small. Other avenues of illustration have a much wider client base, better paying work, and will just lead to bigger and better things than drawing porn.

I know you're curious as to whether random people (non-artists) will approach you on social media to commission you.

Yes, it does happen. All the time. You can be one of those people who sets up cheap commission charts, where you list prices for 1 character, 2 characters, background, etc. It's like ordering an illustration off a fast food menu. It's cheap and poor quality, but you'll get some work that way (with proper exposure, which is a whole different issue)

However, that's the low hanging fruit. Monetizing your online presence by gearing it towards the RIGHT people instead of the MOST people is key. Real success comes from trying to attract the attention of art directors. Art/Creative/Design directors are the hands that feed illustrators. These are the people who's job is to find talent and commission well paying, quality projects. If you're socially savvy, then developing a Behance+Dribbble account is a sure way to get their attention. These are the most searched platforms by art directors for finding new talent.

So to think that drawing porn is the most profitable option for a decent artist is a severely misguided and uninformed opinion. Seriously - That's stupid, R U dum?
