You have to learn the rules before you break the rules.

This applies to literally everything. Literally every person in their right mind will see that they can break a principle if it makes their work better, therefore its easier just to make it seem like its principles that needs to be accounted for. They are still very good tools for learning about timing and in general how to think about animating, which is far better than just a how to guide.
