I'll tell you why, it's because even though EVERYTHING ELSE IS GOOD, he ruins it by using unprofessional lighting, the light source is essentially behind the character. A professional would put the light source in front of the character.

Make a very impressive drawing
Then, add the lightsource BEHIND the character
Artists like redcomet are good at ruining illustrations like this by putting the shade over the character's face
A professional would have a lighting setup like this
