You aren't supposed to follow it rigidly, you are supposed to stay loose adapt it to the way that best fits you. Nearly everyone to learned under Reilly and went on to teach his method offered their own different perspective on it.

dude, you need to learn construction.
without an example i can only give general advice.

use your reference as reference, look at it and then figure out how you would go about doing that same thing if you had no reference and had to construct it. commit your method of construction to memory, and stick with it till you can draw it in your sleep, then go out and look up other construction/abstraction methods and see if any thing applies to you or that you could use.

my guess is you know nothing about the underlying forms and are at best copying an image from reference, not using the reference.

watts i believe is the best teacher of that method, look up the video on peers and i believe it has some of the materials they hand out in their atelier included.

i think this is some of it or at least a version of it, its whats on my desktop.
