I was taught a good way to practice gesture is capturing a poses from lifedrawing each taking 30secs and moving into a next set of 90secs per pose. You dont need to add the full detail even making a simplified form like rough lines, sets of spheres and loose building blocks are enough, this gesture is not great but I was told I need to do the full body and get better at scaling in advance to avoid running out of space but you get the main idea. Your gesture can also look like the smaller image on the left, suggestive lines do the work pretty well. Keep in mind gestures dont need to look pretty they are for your own benefit for getting a feel or flow, look up into line of action to be able to communicate movement and grounding, also if its hard at a glance to see proportions take notice of negative space of your subject.
