Would people buy my story more if I said I was one of the better students (which I was and I know it because they divide the class for 'tiers' talk by term 3) anyway?

Because OBVIOUSLY if you cant perform well in school you must be one of the lazy arrogant and shittalking people and not work hard enough even if it gives you sickness throughout the school? It's not like the best students coming out of the school always come in with a ton of previous exp anyway with teh exception of Alex Jessup right? And if you are indeed one of the better people you would never come out and say it because you don't want to hurt your chances? Yea, that's exactly the business model Feng is running that school with.
