OP the thing you've got to be really wary of with /ic/ in general is that they will preach that it takes years longer to get good than it really does.

There are artist proving wrong time and time again that you don't need a long time to get good at this. But they get written off as being more talented than other artists or another reason. And the answer to that is they just stumbled across a way of getting better that works really well for anybody no matter who does it.

And NO you don't need 10 hours a day to get good. That is absolute unrealistic madness and you'll get burned out way before you use those hours. Settle for maybe 3 or 4 hours at most and spread out your lessons over the day don't do it all at once.

And the obvious no brainer but. If you care about getting good don't make /ic/ of all places the place where you spend most of your time. Get involved with real online art communities with tons of professionals you can study from.

The negative criticism from /ic/'s feedback is also bad for improvement. Stay positive and stay motivated and don't show your work to people who will make you feel like a piece of shit amateur artist. Even if you are new you should always be eager to believe you can learn the next few steps you need to get good and not see it as this huge deal.

Don't put getting good on a pedestal. When you turn getting good into a really big deal you tend to always believe that goal is out of reach of your capabilities. So getting good ends up feeling unrealistic and impossible deep down.
You can get good. One day it will all click just like that and you'll have it all down. The shading. The coloring. It'll all make sense. You'll have found all the holes in your knowledge that matter and you'll have a great approach to drawing that feels easy to you.
