I never tried odest or elance.
i started on Gamedev sites (just google them-they all have ART-forum parts) and Conceptart.org (they have job searching forum too).
When i did enough freelancing, i got some people who started to contact me more often.
Like this guy im drawing for right now - i did 3 games for him already. Drawing 4th now.
