3d models didn't make actual sculpting pointless, just as much as drawing digitally didn't make drawing on paper pointless...
I see what you imply & agree : in terms of opportunities/jobs, it'd be more beneficial to choose to learn Blender/Maya/3dsmax but the OP can still pursue this art form today. (and somehow manage to get opportunities with it if he uses social media to promote his physical art,for instance)
I'd say that he should learn both digital & traditional 3d to be a better artist. (while staying focused on his preferrence to avoid feeling miserable)

What do you have to do? List it. Then cut it into sub-tasks,etc...And start with the easiest steps one at a time.

Use B O T H :
Social media is where everyone browses. The problem? When thse big sites die/change too much you might lose everything if you only relied on them.
Your own website has higher maintenance but is way more customizable (by you or a webdev you hired if you're too afraid of coding).
One can link to the other & vice bersa, this way no matter what, you'll have an online platform at disposal!
