Life is boring and unfulfilling. Art keeps me distracted and lets me create a parallel world that is much more interesting than the one I inhabit.

Odd, though, that I often focus on dreary and miserable themes in my work. Don't know what that says about me.

One a side note, I'm somewhat sympathetic to the quote on your image, OP. Not that I want to be a woman, but... sometimes women seem so pretty and elegant compared to men that I get a pang of jealousy. In addition they get to express aspects of their personality in a big way that are sort of... off-limits to men.

Also they have much more fun with clothes and accessories.

But then again women have often been jealous of the power and opportunities that men receive, and their physical strength.

I suppose that's why a lot of creators write characters that are of the opposite gender, so that they may partake or sample in a way what it would like to be a different them.

Of course, if you could switch genders, the NEW you would not be you at all. Whatever people may claim, your gender is an inherent part of who you are, and a massive influence on your personality, and you couldn't change something like that without becoming a different person.

I was stuck in my development as a digital artist for years. I just couldn't make any headway. It felt so unnatural and disconnected from the real world.

So, for years I focused on traditional art. Watercolor, inkwash, pen and ink. I learned alot and improved vastly as an artist over that time period, but most jobs these days demand that you work in digital, so one day I decided to buckle down and learn it properly.

I took an online Gnomon class, which helped a lot, and I bought a surface pro 1, which let me draw directly on the screen, and that helped me get over that disconnect I had with the medium.

A while after that I moved to Burbank, and that Surface Pro helped me get my first animation studio job. After that I upgraded to a cintiq 13hd, which was much nicer than the surface. Did a bunch of smaller freelance and art-related jobs. Got my second animation studio job last year and bought a 22 inch cintiq. Since then my abilities have vastly increased.

I basically do digital art every day now, either for me or for a client.

Basically once I buckled down, it took me 3 or 4 years to get where I wanted to be. If I'd known better, I might have invested in a 12wx back in the old days. I think that would have helped my development a lot. I still have a lot of improvement to make, but it's not a struggle anymore.

A relatively simple idea I had that got bogged down due to work and other responsibilities. Finally done.
