Its funny you should mention that- most contemporary fantasy pieces are literal collage, with subjects and objects painted at different times in different locations. Especially Frazetta, and his spiritual successor Vallejo.

I like to imagine that the three women have lead the knight their by some sort of sorcery- especially since one of them is seems to be holding the reigns to his horse. His off-center line of sight makes sense in that context because it would read as bewilderment.

Not one of Frazetta's strongest pieces, but I like the colors and the fact that he actually rendered the figures in it nearly completely. Often, he merely suggest forms by leaving their silhouettes blurred, or having them emerge from some mist.

On a similar note, I've been refining my rendering process irl and I've become obsessed with dark or ephemeral imagery. The Symbolist painters of the 19th century have been in my thoughts a lot for that reason.
