Re-reading your post I'm not sure if you were stating that as something specific to her image, or as a general guideline.
Regardless because im autistic I tried some color tests to try some stuff myself and make sure I'm not misunderstanding this idea myself.
You can eyedropper around on this thing (make sure you do average and not point sample, the render is pixelated) and you'll notice, many different areas jump down in saturation as they go from midtones to dark, or as hues shift.
