Your beard has turned into a bunch of scratch. Concentrate on masses, rather than lines.

See how the beard and facial hair looks on this Sargent? I see you're paying attention to the light source, but beards can easily become symbol.

Try another drawing, but this time try to make the beard more massy.

But then again, it's all up to personal taste in the end.
