I'm currently re-reading an indie manga I liked very much and thinking "man, my art is better than this dude's at times".

So I think "making it" would mean being able to finish a work of art and give it shape. I could have done it years ago already. Improving technical skill is irrelevant if you know how to use limitations as possibility.

Making it = having discipline and a North.
