As mentioned, there have been many series that continued like zombies after their creator's death. However you know in your mind whatever is next isn't what ACTUALLY happened in the story, as it didn't come from the mind of the creator himself. it's more of an alternative telling. And it's what we have to make due with. If we're fortunate enough the creator had left notes of how a story ends, but even then it's maybe half the real picture.
In this case, if we had wanted to continue the tonker verse, there are still many things that nobody but the original artist could explain. There's simply no deducing from the content left behind why Tonker always said "tonk" to everything, as well as the mystery behind this particular comic strip.

What did he mean by this?
