Not that anon but I draw anthros because they're not people, yet they're not alien, like actual aliens?
I can draw a huge variety of characters, way more varied than people can be, without the baggage that comes with drawing people, like making them a certain race (= associate them with a IRL culture), attractive or ugly. Animals are just animals, if I draw a frog person it's going to look like a frog, not like an ugly person or an Asian person. I don't have to differentiate their gender by human standards so I can have a heroine without being forced into making her a boring pretty girl, or having to "break the mold" by making her ugly. With anthros I just ignore that information and I make her a desert jerboa, because she's a nomad who lives in the desert and that's her identity.
You have infinite freedom in designing characters while ignoring a subset of unwanted information that comes with drawing humans, it's pure character design. I believe they're such a strong narrative device and criminally underused just because they're associated with the furry culture. In this setting I made, the race of this character is the only race that can travel further enough in the desert to harvest stuff from the ancient ruins because she needs almost no water and can withstand the extreme temperatures in the desert. Different races have different survival abilities in the desert, some have to settle in cities, some can travel a bit far, some can travel really far into very hostile regions. You can't do this kind of world building with humans.
Anthros are so damn great. I wish they weren't just dismissed as furries.

Why are the drawthreads always dead? Maybe I should post here anyway. Sketch for a new thing
