I'm waiting for the new version of libresprite to release before trying it again. It makes more since to just build aseprite at the moment.

I haven't seen anyone bring this up Grafx2 so Let me recommend it. It's lightweight and has enough tools
to be useful without overwhelming complete beginners, and it's also FOSS if that's important to you. It styles itself after deluxepaint so it has more of an old-school look, big plus for those that are nolstalgic. Overall just a solid program that I feel deserves more love.
