"drawing anime" is just a series of shortcuts that a group of artists collectively engage in so that they can bump out absolute buttloads of work.

you do it so that you have a deep understanding of how to create lifelike images. In the context of drawing for anime, you do life studies so that when you radically simplify your drawings still have a sense of life to them rather than looking like shitty cartoons.

obviously if you want to mimic a certain style you should practice it. But life drawing and learning how to simplify things from life rather than memorizing a series of poses and symbols that you cobble together is what will make your work actually look good.
