The twist is supposed to make you aware of the differences between planes. Of course, starting with this mannequin and moving on to a different method once you get familiar, or using more than one method. Drawing is problem solving and you're supposed to have more than one tool in your toolbox, but this is just a way to get started and not lose sight of what matters: representing action through the figure.
