I come from an art-ish family. My uncle and auntie are artists and I had some talent, but my cousin had even more, so all the praise went to him, but at the same time, they never even knew of my talents. We can all be cynical tough guys here, but praise is really important to children. Sadly, neither of us got into art. The only praise I got was from class, but art class in high school was kind of weird and barely went into actual draftsmanship. So for college, I went into engineering like the sperg I am and my cousin does nothing with art. Looking back, I should not have been so envious of his skills. We could have just drawn together for fun and maybe with some guidance from our uncle/aunt. I let competition demoralize me rather than inspire me. It's a tough pill to swallow, but that's life.
