All ideals and stylized figures are derived from life, yes? Consider the history of how the animu style came to be - it was inspired by Disney and even Disney heavily derived its idealized and stylized figures from life. If you are proficient in the fundamentals and understand the concepts behind abstract forms used in these heavily stylized figures such as side mouths no harm done in charting lines from other artists but the entire basis of the argument we're having here is for somebody who is learning and wants to skip ahead to stylizing figures they will find out the hard way how crucial it is to understand real world figures, and the how we get to these "symbols" or abstract forms that are simplified and translated into what is essentially shape language that implies form rather than portray it.
