They use a lot of masking with linearts from what Ive seen, Ive also been using this just didnt know its a known technique. You just create a mask layer above the lineart and color its parts with various colour, for example neon colour in light. They also erase lines in certain places but thats just normal lineweight practice.

Also using airbrush or soft blending brushes within a shape with locked alpha to paint skin.

What else.. using overlay layers for highlight on hair and eyes with saturated bright colors. Also orange color for subsurface scattering on the edges or shadows (or whatever its called).

Also using spots of nearby colors in shadows etc, thats for sure a trick ive seen used many times, picrel (i know this is a western tutorial but you know this effect been taken from eastern artists in the first place).

Idk, hope that helps? Just my guesses. Theres a lot of nip tutorials on pinterest https://www.pinterest.com/redapples652/anime-skin-coloring-tutorials/ for example

for now i think there are 2 major pieces of advice i can give you
1. edge control - there should be edges that are really hard and edges that are so soft they disappear. observe photos, look for cast shadow and reflected light to figure out which edges look hard or soft
2. color of the light source - if the light source is warm, the shadows will probably look cool. you're moving within darker and brighter shades of one color. you need to also change the hue. i posted 2 pictures/tutorial in the previous thread. >4284879 >4284882
picrel is another tip about colors - its a neat trick to maintain a color harmony and give your painting an interesting twist.

look at the author's portfolio and decide for yourself whether you want to follow his advice. if you decide to go with it, use drawabox only as an aid for your drawings; so for example if your drawing has shit perspective, do the perspective lessons, go back to your drawing and fix it. dont drop all of your work to push through the whole course for next 3 months, you will stagnate badly.
