Touhou is a series of shitty top down scroll up shooting games (like around 10 or so without counting fan games and spin off games) that were all allegedly created by one single game developer called ZUN. But instead of space ships and giant monsters you have lots LOTS of animu girl characters in funny hats and costumes that are references to obscure Japanese folklore creatures who shoot stupid amount of magical bullets at each other.

Because of the characters being cute girls and having an absolute crapton of them the Touhu games became way more popular than they should have any right of being resulting in a massive fandom and some awesome fanarts.
