Do I have ADHD or is western anime the most visually dull and uninteresting animation artstyle?
It's not ugly or jarring, it's just normal, like, too normal. So normal it's boring.
You've got westerners abandoning their inheritance of exaggerated cartoons in favor of trying to do anime but of course they don't quite achieve that authentic japanese quality, so what you have is this middle ground where it's not quite cartoony and not quite anime and it's just rather ordinary looking.
I mean yeah sometimes that's all you need to tell a story, some consistency and clarity. But fuck man, when I watch these cartoons I feel like I'm watching a live action show, like how the fuck do you even manage to pull that off.
