I'm not sure what you mean regarding the swordsmanship, but I don't really know anything about swordsmanship either. The idea was sort of "wandering ronin* noticing something behind him and looks back ready to defend himself"
And you are completely right that the balance is off.

I tried to fix the leg a bit and give it more shape.
