Just started using this book. Continue or disregard it and print Loomis for myself?

Hey /ic/, I decided to get more serious about drawing if time lets me, and I picked up a book in the picture. My goal is to one day get into digital drawing but since I can't afford the investment right now, I'm wondering if anyone has heard of this book and what do you think about it? I hope it will provide the fundamentals I need (I don't have any formal education) to get going and maybe one day be somewhat good.
