When I look at popular artists (or really any artist that gets a lot of attention) it seems they're always consistent with their style. I know consistency is important for people to recognize your work and that kind of thing, but is it really necessary to choose one style and stick with it? I personally like switching between (for example) cel-shading and soft-shading depending on what I feel like, but I'm not sure if this is detrimental to being consistent?
