Because it's a great way to learn, you're basically stealing a master's experience.

Starting the thread with a portrait by John Singer Sargent. You can make requests for paintings, subjects, styles, or difficulty level, I'll try to find something. Yeah, about that, portraits are usually more difficult than landscapes, so in my next post I'll post a simple landscape, you can do that first if you're a beginner or want a warm-up. I'll also post some more information on master studies.

Many good artists say that the key to great rendering is NOT putting alot of detail in the image but instead putting the right amount of detail so that the message of the painting is most effectively communicated
