Anyway OP, no one is saying that you need to MASTER realism. Just understand your proportions so you make small mistakes that the untrained eye wouldn't be able to catch (but the trained eye would be able to fix >>2747948) and you'll be fine. We're just trying to prevent your art from looking like pic related.

You learn to draw good animus if you are good at figure drawing. If you only ever draw animu from animu you have infinitely higher likelihood of ending up with pic related
