are any of you guys studying art in a uni/college in US? If so, then what is your experience there? do you like it? what's the tution like?
im thinking of applying to an art school next year but i dont know where to go and if i will be able to afford the cost.

It's either:
>A: "Why do it when classical realistic figures have been done a thousand times?"
or
>B: "Anime/cartoons have been exposed the most to basically every young person that's grown up with the internet or tv, so they be inspired by that way more than classical figures or paintings."
Either way once they get serious about art they will HAVE to learn anatomy and how to draw a realistic human figure in order to understand the figure and have believeability to their drawings. Basic common drawing sense.

i had the same issue when i started, but it wasn't so bad. i spent the first 3 months doing a lot of skimming around all the different resources to see what they offered and what they had in common. it gave me a good view of the landscape so i knew where to go based on what these resources agreed on. but because you're already aware of your bad habit, i would say start just working through keys to drawing while looking around on your own and also drawing for fun (copy or imagination, whatever, just build mileage and be comfortable with putting pen on paper)

hey anon i don't know your situation, but i really wish i finished my stem degree instead of dropping out. i recently found a job that takes care of me financially, and i found myself making more progress in art than when i was unemployed and had all the time in the world. you'll have more time (and money) for art when you get your career sorted. i want to tell you to keep your chin up but i spent a lot of time thinking about killing myself too so i know how ineffective the dumb little platitudes are

thanks! it'll be 2 years by around december. i started with drawing from life, and charcoal on newsprint doing realism. then spent about 4 months on linear perspective theory. i'm took the fundamentals to anime and now i'm about to tackle color and rendering in a big way. i basically fell for the pic related meme
